Road King Magazine Writers' Guidelines 2005

Who We Are

Road King is a bimonthly magazine that seeks to educate and entertain over-the-road truck drivers.

Road King is owned by and distributed free of charge through the TravelCenters of America truckstop network. Our readers are owner-operators and fleet truck drivers who average 23 nights a month on the road. The magazine was founded in 1963 and has a current circulation of about 225,000 (audited).

What We Want

We cover new truck equipment, technology, finances and driving tips, as well as non-trucking issues such as health advice, sports, music reviews and hobbies. Please take a look at a recent issue and make yourself familiar with our departments, which include "High Octane," "Gear Box," and "Kickin' Back."

Submission Policies

Please don't submit an unsolicited story, but query first so we can be sure your topic is a fit for Road King. Include your resume and two to four writing samples. Send proposals by email to submissions@roadking.com or in writing to:

Writing Standards

Keep these key points in mind as you write for Road King:

1. We focus on short stories packed with useful information for busy truckers.
2. We expect writers to double-check their facts and be able to vouch for every phone number, Web address and name spelling in a story.
3. We also request a list of sources with contact phone numbers, for fact-checking purposes.
4. We follow the Associated Press Manual of Style in most cases, with a few exceptions.
