Celebrating National Truck Driver Appreciation Week
I am always proud to talk about the amazing people I’ve met who earn their living as professional drivers. So I happily join others in the transportation industry in applauding the hard work being done every day by the country’s professional truck drivers. National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is a much-deserved recognition of all that you do and a reminder to everyone of how much we all depend on truckers.
As a company that serves the trucking community, we believe that appreciating the work you do entails more than organizing special events. We also want to address larger concerns. That’s the idea behind two current programs.
The first is our StayFit program. Our “Get Moving•Stay Fit” initiative offers encouragement, incentives and a simple way to get started on a fitness routine. We teamed with the President’s Active Lifestyle Award (PALA) challenge to create a version geared specifically to truckers. Each week, for eight weeks, you choose a Healthy Eating Focus — drink more water, for example — and log 30 minutes of activity five days a week. The enrollment and tracking is done at the UltraONE kiosk. Once you complete the eight weeks, you receive a PALA Get Moving•Stay Fit patch to recognize your effort. Plus, we offer prizes throughout the course of the program as incentive to keep going. It’s a fun way to build healthier habits through a series of simple changes.
The second is our Citizen Driver program. Citizen Driver is meant to spread the word about what truckers do, so the public can better understand the vital part that you all play in their lives, as well as the admirable traits that so many drivers possess. We want people outside of the trucking community to appreciate your professionalism and heart just as we do. Anyone can nominate a driver they believe is outstanding. Winners will have one of our locations named for them, and we’ll hang plaques in their honor, so that others can learn about them. See the item on this page for details on how to nominate a driver.
It’s incredibly satisfying to know that we can help individual drivers, and trucking as a profession, with programs like these. We will always look for ways to help you reach your goals and get the appreciation you deserve.
Do you know an outstanding driver who deserves recognition? Nominations for the Citizen Driver award will be accepted through Nov. 30, 2013. Grand prize winners will have a TA or Petro location named for them. Find information and nomination forms at www.ta-petro.com/citizendriveraward.
