If you made a new year’s resolution to get healthier, congratulations. Making the decision to change is the first step to better health, and it takes a bit of extra effort to stick to an exercise routine and a healthy-eating plan when you spend a lot of time on the road. We have tried to make it easier for you at TA and Petro by offering more exercise and healthy meal opportunities. We plan to continue on that path.

As 2013 unfolds, look for more StayFit exercise options. We will increase the number of always-free StayFit fitness rooms, making it even easier for drivers to get in a good workout no matter what their route. Many of our locations have basketball courts, and most have walking trails. We are also looking at other exercise options and are listening to drivers about the kinds of things that they would like to see added and the places they want to see them.

We know that you want healthy food that is both tasty and satisfying. So we’ll keep adding better-for-you menu items at our restaurants and include more lower-calorie snack options in the travel stores, both clearly marked with the StayFit logo.

The more you know, the better your odds of success. Our StayFit brochures, available in the restaurants, offer nutrition facts and tips for making healthier meal choices.

Check out the four-page StayFit pull-out section in this issue. We hope you will use this throughout the year as a quick resource to all of the healthy options we have for you. You’ll find a calorie and exercise tracker in the section. Studies have shown that tracking what you eat and when you exercise helps to keep you on the path to wellness.

We’re supporting the Truckload Carriers Association’s Weight Loss Showdown again this year. The trucking company team that collectively loses the greatest percentage of weight will receive their own StayFit fitness room equipment package, worth more than $13,000.

Our commitment to StayFit mirrors our commitment to you. We want to help you feel your best on the road. So stop in often. We’ve got what you need.

Million Point Winner

Congratulations to David Beahm of Roaring Branch, Pa., who won the grand prize of one million UltraONE points in the UltraONE Anniversary Sweepstakes. The driver for Shop Vac expressed thanks to TA Binghamton, N.Y. store GM Nancy Polkowski (in white), and employees Mabel New (left) and Christina Fiske, who made sure he entered by swiping his UltraONE card when he made a purchase there.

Petro Gary On the Way

A November groundbreaking ceremony started the complete renovation of the Petro Gary at I-80/I-94, Exit 9. Scheduled to reopen in the first half of 2013, the location will include an Iron Skillet, 340 truck parking spaces, a six-bay Petro:Lube truck service center; DEF at the pump; 15 driver showers with a fully automated reservation system onsite and via the TruckSmart mobile app; Taco Bell/Pizza Hut and more.

UltraChef Winners

Get ready to dig in to dishes developed by your fellow drivers. TA restaurants will feature Linda’s Crock Pot Pulled Pork in January, the winning UltraChef entry from Albert Toney of South Carolina. Petro’s Iron Skillet restaurants featured the Kielbasa Stir Fry in December, the winning recipe from Alex Creighton of Maine. Toney and Creighton each won 200,000 UltraONE points and get more points each time their menu item is ordered. Two runners-up, Bernie Clawson from Indiana, and Keith Ushman from Illinois received 100,000 UltraONE Points. Congratulations to our winners, and thank you to all who entered!

Are You MATS Ready?

Yes, it’s almost that time of year again. The Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS) takes place March 21 -23 at the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville, and you know that TA and Petro will be there.

Make plans to stop in and visit the TA and Petro booth (#19156). Representatives will be on hand to answer your questions and listen to your comments.

Plus, as usual, you can expect to find games, prizes, beverage samples and more.

MATS itself is always a worthwhile stop for drivers, who can discover new gadgets, check out the latest truck models and meet with industry experts in all aspects of trucking.

The Paul K. Young Truck Beauty Championship draws entrants from all across the country, vying for the top title. The dozens of tricked out trucks are always a favorite attraction for attendees.

So start planning your trip to Louisville now. We look forward to seeing you at our booth.
