TA Tech Is Tops Twice
Butch Estrada, who gets trucks in shape for the road at the Lake Station, Ind. TA shop, won top honors in two categories – Brakes and Fasteners — at this year’s SuperTech competition. Put together by the Technology and Maintenance Council, the annual contest brings together the country’s top shop technicians. It includes a written test and hands-on work in 14 different stations that test contestants’ diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
This year TA sent 12 techs to the contest. It was Estrada’s second time to compete. In addition to plaques commemorating each of his category wins, Estrada received a Panasonic Toughbook laptop computer.
While he’s proud of his accomplishment, Estrada says that his win is shared by many others. “For me this is a result of teamwork. The technicians who are competing are in the spotlight, but the trainers, managers and tech TSAs who line up the work are all part of what we do. Without a good team, none of us would be there.”
